With the winner Georgia, who won in men, two gold, two silver and two bronze medals and Serbia who won in women two gold and one bronze medal, concluded the first day of the European U21 “Iliadis Cup”, which ends tomorrow in the Sports Hall of Evosmos Salonika.
The Greek people applauded Roman Moustopoulos who in the -73kg category won the gold medal, beating with ippon his rival from Georgia Levan Gougova, showing his intentions for the upcoming European Championship in Budapest.
In the -55kg category for men, Mehman Sadigov from Azerbaijan – 2nd country in the medal list- stepped on the first step of the podium after winning the Georgian Giorgi Sachaleli. The German Moritz Plafky who finished 2nd (at -50kg) in the U17 European championship in Montenegro (2012), finished only in the 3rd place.
In the -60kg category the fight was big. The Georgian Vazha Margvelashvili who won a silver medal in the European Championship (Porec, 2012), beat the Turkish Ahmet Sahin Kamba who finished third in the same athletic event.
In the -66kg category, a Georgian Andro Beguashvili kicked out one of the favorite, Arsen Ghazaryan (3rd in World Championship U17 in Ukraine) from Armenia and finished first beating Jalil Jalilov from Azerbaijan.
In the -44kg category for women, the gold medalist was the Serbian Julijana Savic who 3 years ago was first in the European championship U20 in Samokov and the silver medal won Borislava Damyanova from Bulgaria – who in the medal list was second – she also was third in U20 of in the same category.
In the -48kg category for women, the gold medalist was the Serbian Milica Nikolic and second was Hayley Willis from Great Britain.
The Bulgarian representative in the -52kg Magdalena Varbanova, fifth in the Porec European championship (-48kg) was the big winner of the category and she beat the Croatian Beata Guszak. Big fight took place in the -57kg where the Bekky Livesey from Great Britain beat the Croatian Tena Cicic.
